So awhile back I found a girl on Etsy that had skull necklaces which is nothing new to me, I've made them before but she utilized clay with them. SO naturally, I had to try it lol. I made a smaller version with a mink skull that I'll be posting soon before I did this one just to test it. This process has been AWESOME! I'm so in love with the finished product!! I used things I got for Christmas to make it as I haven't done a jewelry piece for me and I really wanted something crazy to wear to dinner and freak my mom out LOL jk. XD
I used a amethyst as the focal color and stone as it's always been an important one to both my mother and to me based off of it's healing properties and positive energy. This is a heavy piece but the mink skull is much smaller and lighter. I like heavy pieces that swing around a lot so naturally, I had to use the larger of the two haha. In length, it's about a foot long in the front.
Materials: gray fox skull, sculpey, acrylic paints, rhinestones, amethyst point, smokey quartz point, lavender agate cabochon, victorian era filigree pendant with glass vial, Czech glass beads, fire polished lavender glass beads, swarovksy crystals, two sizes of copper chain, two authentic coins from India taken from a broken vintage bracelet, copper clasp, dyed purple geode slice, copper wire This piece is SOLD.
Thanks so much! Yeah, I can usually find them at the local Ren Faires or from friends of mine that are hunters but if all else fails, Ebay and Etsy are the places to check considering there are quite a few hunters that put the parts they have no use for up for sale. (:
Congrats! As a winner in the contest you receive a feature in my journal (here: [link]) and a pixel art commission. The pixel art commission can be an avatar, an emote or whatever pixel scene (see my gallery [link] for examples of what I can make). Please let me know what you'd like.
I would absolutely LOVE to see someone where this out in public, I'm sure they would get a lot of puzzled and awed facial expressions. xD This is a gorgeous necklace. Amethyst is one of my favorite stones you did a wonderful job creating this!
YES, do it. XD Haha (I would wear it out in public as well, I LOVE funky stuff like this~)
I see you put Smokey Quartz in it as well? Ahh, I love that stone too. (you really put some really good energy stones in this!) Hopefully the Amethyst won't fade too fast or too much, that would be a shame.
LOL!!! I wore it out today and got tons of scared and creeped out looks from older people but all the girls my age wanted one so I ended up dishing out my contact info more than I got nasty looks. HEC YEAH! +1 for society haha!
I did! I love smokey quartz. I collect stones and they're ALL over my room. Thanks!
I don't think it will. It's one that my mom has had a long time and she passed it along to me as with several others that I keep in my room. <3
Woohoo! Gotta LOVE it when that happens, hahaha! If only you had gotten pictures of those old people's faces. O V O pfft Ah man, I'd love to commission a necklace from you if I weren't a poor college student~ Q v Q
I collect stones too! I have so many scattered all over the place, I bet I could start a museum of tumbled ones, pfft. I love going out to places and naming all the stones I see, haha! My favorite stones besides Amethyst are Malachite and Kambaba Jasper (I could list a ton more, but I'll save you the read. xD)
Oh I know! I wish I had too. Dude... I totally understand being a broke college student. I'm out of college now though and I'm just a broke artist. XDD If you ever want to, I do payment plans. I'll also be posting a tutorial on how to make these too. ^~^
YAY!! Hahaha!! I have all kinds, everywhere too. XDD Those are some pretty ones too!! I love ametrine and labradorite. <3 Lol I don't mind lists of stones haha!! It definitely is. :/
Oh man, I seriously would if I wasn't already on the brink of dropping out of school from lack of money. D: If I ever get a job I'll totally spend some of my paycheck on your lovely necklaces I just really can't right now. x__x; HAHA that's going to be me in the next three years or so... broke artist. XD
Tutorial?! Yus, now I just have to find me some skulls and have the courage to glue some rocks to it. :U
OOh, What I really want is one of the large bigger-than-your-hand quartz points. THOSE are gorgeous Ooh, yes, labradorite is soo pretty! Haha, I have like... at least 80 stones now~ o v o""
Oh dude I hear you... College is getting EXPENSIVE. I dropped out of the one I was in and I had tons of scholarships because it was cheaper to go to a two-year at full price than it was to go to my liberal arts college with enough scholarships that I was only paying room and board. x-x
Good luck trying to find a job!! One of my friends FINALLY found one after months of trying desperately to get one. the economy just sucks so bad right now. HAHAHA!! I remember going to my guidance counselor when I was looking into colleges and she asked me what I wanted to do as my career choice and I said to be an artist and she goes, "oh you want to teach it?!" and I said no that I wanted to sell it and make a living off of that. She stared at me and then got a big grin and goes, "oooohhh you want to be a starving artist!"
Hahaha YUP! I know there's others that watch me and are crafty and I don't like hoarding secrets on how to do things haha. You can pick up skulls pretty cheap, actually. I get most of mine from the taxidermy section on Ebay and from a friend out west. Keep an eye out and you can pick up a skull for like $5 on Ebay.
YES!! Dude... I saw some amethyst on Ebay not too long ago that were pulled from a casino and they were HUGE!! They were taller than my dad. x-x If I had had the money, those would be in my bedroom lol. Oh man.. I don't think I can count all of mine. I have ones that I've purchased, been given, or found on hiking excursions in the mountains. They're addicting!!!
Haha I have a few sellers that I know that collect them legally and one woman's family hunts them and she sells them to artists. I also find them and collect them from friends and family and hikes in the woods. There's a taxidermy section on Ebay in the "Outdoor Sports" category.
I believe it goes, Outdoor Sports -> Hunting -> Taxidermy or something like that.
